• King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD) — a striking modern district of contemporary hotels and aparthotels, well suited to business stays and a sleek, new-Riyadh feel.
• The Diplomatic Quarter (Al Safarat) — a calm, leafy and secure district of embassies, parks and running trails, ideal for a quieter, greener stay.
• Central districts (Al Sulimaniyah, Al Wurud, Al Rawdah) — practical neighbourhoods with a good mix of mid-range and upscale hotels near dining and shopping, often at friendlier rates.

Riyadh is at its best from November to March, when the desert winters are mild and pleasant — perfect for sightseeing, outdoor dining and the city's parks — and this is also the liveliest season, with the months-long Riyadh Season festival of concerts, shows and sport running through autumn and winter. Summers are very hot, which makes them the quietest and most affordable time to visit, with the city's air-conditioned malls, museums and indoor attractions at your disposal. Spring and autumn bookend the cool season with pleasant, transitional weather.

Riyadh recently became far easier to explore without a car: the new Riyadh Metro runs across six colour-coded lines reaching the airport, Olaya, KAFD and the city's main districts, with tickets and journey planning through the Darb app. A growing bus and rapid-transit network fills in the rest, while taxis and ride-hailing apps like Careem are everywhere and handy for door-to-door trips. The city is spread out, so a metro stop nearby or a quick taxi is the easiest way between districts.
