Antalya is the jewel of Turkey's Mediterranean coast — the gateway to the "Turkish Riviera," where long beaches, warm turquoise sea and pine-clad mountains meet a charming Ottoman old town. Visitors come for the beach resorts and all-inclusive hotels, the ancient ruins and waterfalls nearby, and the easy, family-friendly holiday atmosphere. Its hotels range from boutique stays in the historic Old Town to the big beachfront and golf resorts along the coast, with a tram and good buses linking the centre, the beaches and the airport.
Where to stay
- Kaleiçi (Old Town) — the historic heart of cobbled lanes, Ottoman houses, Hadrian's Gate and the marina; charming, walkable and full of restaurants and shops — ideal for first-time visitors.
- Konyaaltı Beach — a long beach with mountain views, parks and family attractions; a relaxed, family-friendly base on the western side of the city.
- Lara Beach — the eastern beach strip of large five-star and family resorts, great-value sandy stretches, parks and shopping.
- Belek — the premium resort enclave east of the city, famed for its all-inclusive luxury hotels and world-class golf courses.
When to visit
Antalya shines in spring (April–June) and autumn (September–October), when warm, sunny days are perfect for the beaches and the ruins, the sea is swimmable, and crowds and prices are gentler than peak. Summer (July–August) is hot and lively, the height of the beach season with the most sunshine — busiest and most in demand. Winter is mild, quiet and the best value, ideal for exploring the old town and the historic sites without the crowds. The sea stays warm enough for swimming from late spring well into autumn.
Getting around
Antalya is easy and affordable to get around. The AntRay tram runs from the city centre and bus terminal out to the airport, while a charming seaside tram connects Konyaaltı Beach through the old town, past Hadrian's Gate, towards Lara. City buses are cheap and frequent and reach both main beaches and the airport, and taxis and ride-hailing are easy for door-to-door trips. The compact old town is a pleasure to explore on foot.
